Taşatarlar şehir evi with corner çardak
Safranbolu, Turkey
The Taşatarlar şehir (town) house is located in the Babasultan mahalla along the Akçasu stream. The stepping uppermost level faces south. The ground level is formed with thick stone walls. The doors and latticework above conceal a two story hayat space within. The ground level interior also includes a stable, large oven and a stair to the open çardak and washing area that overlooks the hayat, and a separate kitchen, and living and sleeping room that faces the Dağdelen cami (mosque) to the north. The uppermost level contains a large corner çardak and three living and sleeping rooms. (photo 1994)
