Traditional dwelling with çardak
Çimiköy, Turkey
Çimiköy is a small village in the Akseki District, east of the town. Large farmhouses, many abandoned, show the characteristic "button" construction and çardak features of the region. This house has a projecting corner room (sofa) of wood construction, supported on angled braces. The wood posts supporting the open çardak balcony continue upward above the rail to serve as poles to attach trellises or ropes to support drying fabrics, fruits, or vegetables, as is common in the region.
