Village dwellings set on slopes
Akseki, Turkey
At the upper edge of Akseki the slopes are steep and houses are built against the hillside, accessible by stepped pathways. Construction is largely of the regional stone reinforced with wooden courses, with wood used for principal top-floor rooms. The houses are all oriented downhill toward the sun's path, and typically have projecting çardak balconies supported on tall wood posts and covered by extensions of the tile roofs.
