Çardak, freestanding on edge of field
Akseki, Turkey
Akseki is a town in the province of Antalya high in the western Taurus Mountains. The region was settled by the Hittites while the town was settled during the Roman Empire and later conquered by the Seljuk Turks during the 11th centuries. Near a settlement on the edge of the town, this çardak is located beside a field to provide shelter for shepherds and field workers taking breaks during the day. Just beyond the çardak is a cistern that is covered by an arbor topped with collected branches and climbing vines.
