The projecting raised platform is supported by a set of beams and brackets fastened to the posts and an extended joist that supports a short post. The edge of the narrow raised platform over the deck is supported by the plank balusters and cap rail that close the area between the deck and raised platform. Raised platforms are sometimes used to hold produce to be dried in the sun. In this case the foliage covers the area and it appears better suited as a place to sit facing the dwelling and others on the deck. (photo 2000)
