Mountain Pasture Hut in settlement
Velika Planina, Slovenia
The wooden pasture huts are notable for their roof forms, clad in elongated larch or spruce shingles. A modern smokestack emerges through an opening below the ridge, which would formerly have sufficed to emit smoke. Currently prized as weekend retreats for skiers and hikers, many huts have been restored and altered to enhance human comfort, but the site is protected by covenants, and remains visually intact. Fences corral herds at each hut, adding further pattern to the landscape.
