Cula Greceanu, view to southeast from cerdac
Măldăreşti, Romania
Behind the low wood capped wall the stair rises to reach this level. This common area (cerdac) provides three large openings facing east and south. The corner of this space is formed to maintain the soliditiy of the wall while incorporating pilastered forms to closely match the short columns that complete each opening. The trilobite arches appear lighter through edge reveals that narrow the mass of the forms. The small openings below the large arcade bays are reportedly for firing upon attackers, as landowners were commonly under threat from brigands. (photo 2000)
