Konaci upper galleries, Manastir Sveta Trojica
Pljevlja, Montenegro
There are galleries at the two upper levels at the center of the northern konak, open spaces for circulation overlooking the church. A slight angle at the midpoint of this long structure distorts the center of the galleries, which appear to bow outward. The decorative wooden infill pieces form ogee arches introduced to Europe in Medieval times and often attributed to Persian and Islamic architectural roots and used in Byzantine architecture as well as later architecture.
