Traditional stone dwelling with covered wooden porch
Koštanjica, Montenegro
In the village of Koštanjica, south-facing houses are sited against the rocky karstic slope. Masonry construction prevails except for spanning members and open structures like the raised porch of this abandoned house. A stone stair leads to the porch; wood is reserved for essential purposes. This shaded space would be used for outdoor tasks and social gatherings.
