Traditional stone dwelling with straw roof
Čevo, Montenegro
Čevo is a village in central Montenegro, with historic roots in tribal, pre-Ottoman times. In this rugged karst landscape buildings were invariably constructed of the local stone, with wood reserved for roof structure (with cladding of straw). Few trees are visible. This elderly woman was one of the few remaining residents in old houses like this.
