Fisherman's shed on posts, Lake Dojran
Stari Dojran, Macedonia
Lake Dojran is noted for an abundance of fish and also for the tall reeds that line the shore near the village of Stari Dojran. Fisherman's shacks like this one face the lake. Ajacent underwater corralling traps admit fish that swim toward the reeds when "herded" by migratory birds (cormorants, grebes, and others). The shacks are simple structures of boards, poles, reeds and mud, atop wooden platforms.
