Fisherman's shed through reeds, Lake Dojran
Stari Dojran, Macedonia
The fish also inhabit the areas of reeds in colder weather, and fishing takes place only in winter and spring. The lake is shallow and suited to pole construction. These types of structures were noted in the writings of Herodotus in 440 BCE, the huts had fishing pens directly beneath the elevated huts. Those huts had removeable sections in the floor to allow fishermen to pull fish up directly into the hut.
