Kanevce House
Kuќata na Kanevče
Ohrid, Macedonia
The house of the Kanevce family is located across from the Church of Saint Sofia, and fits a wedge-shaped site but expands upward to incorporate a large top-floor reception space, the chardak (čardak). That space, typical in all Christian homes in the Old Town, was used for celebrating religious holidays and weddings, out of sight from the local Ottoman authorities. A bold curved (yoke-shaped) soffit and fascia that tops the pediment adds grandeur to this otherwise modest dwelling.
