Koš (corncrib), courtyard of kula 3
Junik, Kosovo
The residents of kulas in rural Kosovo are farmers, and within their walled courtyards are structures for farm produce. This is a fine example of corncribs found in many parts of the southwestern Balkans, a long, narrow structure framed in wood and enclosed in woven tree boughs, set on a masonry base. Carved motifs on the vertical posts affirm the importance of the crib's contents. A tile shed roof protects the vulnerable contents.
