Deteriorating traditional dwelling

The old houses of this village are similar to others in the region around these lakes, whether in Greece, FYRO Macedonia, or Albania. A U-shaped surrounding wall of stone masonry opens on the lake- or sun-facing elevation with an open porch (tsardaki) on the upper, living floor. Storage spaces are below. In this dwelling the porch edge has been partially closed with a short wall between the columns using diagonal wood members and soft brick as infill. (photo 2004)
