Bekas Mansion from across Tripotamos river
Veroia, Greece
The Jewish Quarter of Veria is bounded on one side by the Tripotamos River, and its steep slope forms a boundary to the neighborhood. The Bekas Mansion is one of several that are built into this slope, with excellent views from the upper-level rooms. The symmetrical plan of the upper floors is revealed in the A-B-A window groupings, the central bay part of a cross-axial common space. This organization was common for grand houses in the mid-19th century. (photo 2004)
