Bekas Mansion, Barbouta district
Veroia, Greece
The Mansion of Archontiko Beka is located in Barbouta, the former Jewish quarter of Verria, and was built in 1859 in what local historians describe as a baroque and rococo style. This view shows the side (courtyard) entrance, lower level masonry wall and projecting sachnisi (oriel) in the upper living floor of plaster-coated timber-and-infill construction. The mansion currently houses the Institute of Traditional Balkan Architecture and archives of Professor Nikolaos Moutsopoulos. (photo 2004)
