Emmanouil Brothers Mansion, view toward the north
Kastoria, Greece
This view shows two aspects of the masonry work of the ground level; first one can see the reinforcing belts of wood (oak) and the ends of the interlocking pieces that join the exterior belt member to the interior belt member. Second, one can see the corbelling out of the masonry (using wooden interlocking pieces) to extend the corner of the ground level to a single turning point. The lower part of the wall allows the easy passage of carts and people on the narrow streets.
