Popangelova kăšta
view from courtyard of čardak
Tryavna, Bulgaria
This modest dwelling of a textile craft family is typical of the period prior to the national revival in Bulgaria. Sturdy wood frame construction with areas of plank infill characterize the construction of the upper level, with masonry for the ground level, where one room with windows and a plastered exterior opens to the covered area below the čardak. The open čardak would have served as an outdoor workspace, overlooking the courtyard and adjacent Tryavna River.
