Kăšta na Dončo Popov, view from čardak
Boženci (Bozhentsi), Bulgaria
This view of the chardak (locally called a prust, or vestibule) shows the wood-framed sitting platform (commonly called the sofa, or locally the odŭr, which translates as plank-bed), and exterior wall with window openings. A second platform is above the stairway rising from the middle level. Wooden window grilles provide a degree of privacy and protection of light curtains from gusting winds so that the glazed panels could be removed in fine weather.
