Traditional dwelling (kuća)
Jajce, Bosnia
This modest house, in poor repair, retains the basic features of the regional domestic architecture. It appears to be built mainly of wood, with a roof clad in metal rather than traditional shingles, and the main living floor raised above the ground floor. A partly enclosed stair leads to a latticed porch on the upper living floor, which is cantilevered beyond the ground level. The ground spaces would be reserved for domestic animals or service uses. In northern Bosnia this type of two-storey house is called a čardaklija, a term not used in Jajce.
