Animal-powered Water Well (bunar)
Vladimirovac, Vojvodina
Vladimirovac is a village in the South Banat District of Vojvodina. This covered water well was powered by horses yoked to the horizontal arms extending from the drive shaft at the center. The heavy timber structure forms a square with pyramidal, clay-tiled roof covering the whim mechanism, and an added bay housing the well cistern. According to Nada Vuletić, such wells were typical in the sandy Banat region in the early 19th century.
