Tarihi ahşap evler, Historic wooden houses, Zeyrek Mehmet Paşa Sokak
Zeyrek, Istanbul, Turkey
Zeyrek is a district in Istanbul that contains the Molla Zeyrek Camii (formerly the 12th century Byzantine Manastırı Pantokrater) in the western part the old city within the 4th century Constantine Land Wall. The monastery complex, now a mosque, was the second largest religious complex of the Byzantine era in Constantinople. The wooden row houses were constructed in the late 19th and early 20th century and efforts to conserve these are ongoing. These were constructed on stone and masonry foundations with ballon wood framing above. (photo 1994)
