Çardak Dwelling 1, Garden District
Ibradı, Turkey
This dwelling in the Garden District of Ibradı has an impressive çardak (summerhouse structure with a raised porch) where occupants can sit and work while overseeing the garden plot. The structures date back to the 19th century and appear to have dry set masonry with interlocking reinforcing strips of wood to stabilize the masonry from seismic activity. The upper level of the çardak is made of stone and light timber framing with built-in seating along the edge.
