Historic house in disrepair
Bursa, Turkey
In a semi-rural part of the city, this modest traditional house reveals typical regional organization and construction. A gateway opens to a walled courtyard while living quarters are raised above. The ground floor, likely used for service functions, has only one opening to the street, while the living spaces above have a series of spaced window openings. One room projects slightly, showing the ends of wood joists on a cross beam supported by angled brackets. The end wall of the house has lost its plaster coating and shows a typical wood frame and soft brick infill. (photo 1994)
