Sadullah Paşa Yalısı
Pasha Sadullah seaside mansion
Çengelköy, Üsküdar, Turkey
Built by Mehmet Aga in the late 18th century, this historic wooden mansion is located in Çengelköy, a neighborhood in the Üsküdar district on the Asian side of the Bosphorus. Sadullah Paşa was its sixth owner, purchasing the yalı in 1872. There were originally two joined dwellings, the men's quarters (selamlık) and private family quarters (haremlık). The men's quarters to the north and kitchens to the south no longer exist, the remaining haremlık now restored. A traditional central hall plan occurs on both floors, with rooms grouped around a central salon. (photo 1994)
