Köprülü Hüseyin Paşa Yalısı
Pasha Hussein Köprülü seaside mansion
Anadolu Hisari, Beykoz, Turkey
Along the Bosphorus Strait that separates Europe from Asia, wealthy Istanbul residents built summer mansions, the Pasha Hussein Köprülü mansion was constructed at the end of the 17th century. The mansion has a selamlık (for males and guests), a harem (for women), and auxiliary spaces. The selamlık has three wings that partially overhang the seawall. Its high decorated ceilings but low shuttered windows protect the interiors from the strong western sun. A central space contains an ornate fountain under a dome covered by simple hipped roofs.
