Wooden Kašča (traditional wooden granary)
Kamnik, Slovenia
The town of Kamnik, in the Karavanke Alps, is in the northern part of Slovenia. The Kašča (granary) open air museum is a collection of granaries from the surrounding Tuhinj valley brought to one site in Kamnik to celebrate the simple vernacular architecture of the region. The kašča is a common element on a farm since it provides storage space for grains, other produce, and sometimes other valuables on the farm. The kašča structures are often a point of pride and are constructed with special care and detail. (photo 1988)
