Typical Granary (ambar)
Sirogojno, Serbia
On this ambar, constructed of wood planks, one can see the protection given to the point where grain is deposited into the structure. The roof extends well beyond the body of the granary and a secondary half-cone roof covers the raised shelf from which grain is delivered into the structure. The diagonal brackets reinforce the projecting headers that support a removable shelf (not present in this view). A ladder, is placed on setting stones and against the covered opening shelf to allow the grain containers to be placed within the structure. The ladder in question is present on the other side of this ambar. (photo 1988)
