Seča Reka, Serbia
Seča Reka is a small village in western Serbia. The small wooden church dedicated to Saint George sits on a knoll, surrounded by fields and woods. The tombstones that surround the church are those of fallen soldiers of the Balkan wars. The current building dates from 1812, but previous churches occupied this site since the 15th century. Like several in this region, the church at Seča Reka is formed in plan with a hexagonal apse and an entry porch covered by rounded ends of the steeply pitched roof. Eight courses of radially-sawn wooden shingles provide its cladding. (photo 1988)
