Čardak with ambar at Manastir Svetog Jovana Bogoslova
Poganovo, Serbia
The tiny čardak faces the churchyard, with its back to the surrounding mountains, and the south-facing porch of the upper level guest quarters provides a pleasing space for outdoor activities. Its wood frame construction combines infill of horizontal wood plank for the lower level granary, and bondruk for the white-rendered areas. The porch arches are a falsework of plastered lath over wood framing. Clay tiles cover this roof as well as those of other churchyard structures.
