Hriste Jovanovića Kuća, Ponisavlje Museum
Pirot, Serbia
Pirot is a town in southeastern Serbia, near the Bulgarian border, known for kilim carpet production. The Hristo Jovanović House, currently houses a regional cultural heritage museum. It was built for a successful livestock trader in 1848, and considered the most prestigious dwelling in town. This garden view shows its symmetrical composition and elaborate roof form, and strong contrasts between white-rendered wall surfaces and dark wood trim. Atypically, the ground floor was the family residence, while the upper level was reserved for entertaining.
