Čardak spaces from southwest (inside gate)
Mali Izvor, Serbia
The construction assembly of the lower čardak is revealed in the areas where deterioration has occurred. The wooden columns have additional strips added to serve as grounds for the application of the plaster coating that forms the finished surface. The portion of the columns to receive plaster have been scarified and notched to provide a better mechanical bonding of the plaster to the column. The arched openings are formed with thin wooden strips that are then covered with plaster.
