Podrum Structure, interior view of vaulting crown
Atenica, Serbia
View from the ladder opening to the upper level. The parabolic narrowing of the barrel vault form and sloped intersecting north wall are lit by the open upper entry door beyond. The cross beams, that occur above the bracket ends, do not appear to connect to the brackets and have been used to support lumber, wood poles, and a few wooden crates. The beams that support the upper level tie into the base of the barrel vaulted form and, along with the end walls, serve to stabilize the barrel vaulted form. (photo 1988)
