Podrum Structure
Atenica, Serbia
The wooden and masonry vineyard structure was constructed in the mid-19th century in the central area of Serbia, near Čačak. The wooden structure was created by vaulting the timber and log elements. The wooden components are protected by a wood frame and clay tile roof that rests above the wooden structure. The foundation of the structure, on a south sloping hill provides space for the storage of grapes for fermentation (a wine cellar); the upper portion (wooden) served as a place to live while tending the vineyards and as a place to store tools.
