Casa Dumitra
Transylvania, Alba County
Dumitra, Romania
This single-story, early 19th century dwelling was relocated from the village of Dumitra, on the Tarnavelor plateau, to the Village Museum in Bucharest. The floor is of beaten earth and the walls are of an old technique of clay-coated lath (wattle and daub), and the steep oak-framed roof is clad with sheaves of wheat. This modest house type was built by free peasants compelled to work on feudal estates.
