Traditional masonry and wooden dwelling (kuća)
Ivangrad (Berane), Montenegro
The ground level of this house has been upgraded for living purposes, but was probably formerly used for storage and animals, and revealed its original masonry construction. The upper floor appears intact except for the newer windows. The horizontal plank wall construction with interlocked corners, and Dinaric wood-shingled roof (with flared eaves and smoke vent), are typical of construction in northeastern Montenegro, where the mountainous landscape is heavily forested.
