Barn with cellar (podrum) as animal shelter
Aluga, Montenegro
These buildings are a regional variation of the Dinaric tradition of rural mountain architecture in the western Balkans, as evident in their compact, hip-roofed forms and dominantly wooden construction. This view of the compound shows entrances to the barn at both upper and lower levels. The small living structure at left has whitewashed vertical siding over horizontal log construction. A modern house can be seen beyond.
