Arabati Baba Teќe
Plav Kula (blue tower)
Tetovo, Macedonia
The square, two-story kula was built for Fatima, the ailing daughter of Redzep Pasha of Tetovo, who renovated the teќe along with his son, Abdurahman Pasha, in the early 19th century. The lower floor, built of stone, contains a hearth and was used for food preparation and winter quarters, while the upper (accessed by an exterior stair) is of blue-painted wooden construction and fitted on three sides with a system of horizontal shutters that open up and down. Elaborate woodwork and paintings embellish this unique building.
