Traditional carved ceiling medallion (rosette)

This highly-varnished wooden ceiling was located in the reception room of one still-inhabited old house. It is an example of the refined woodworking skills of craftsmen from Debar, and incorporates plant motifs and geometric patterns found in traditional urban Balkan houses. (photo 1988)
