Sveti Jovan Bigorski, Konak čardak
Radika River, Macedonia
At the southern end of the gallery along the meeting and dining space is a raised čardak that gives one an honorific place to view the courtyard, church and landscape. The large platform continues the level of the raised seating along the rail. Below the raised platform, in the structure, are concealed granaries. The projecting curved stone element contains a semi-circular banquette and table within the refectory for the monastery's leaders. The sloping fields gather the morning and midday sun and are somewhat protected from the winter winds by the Korab Mountains. (photo 1988)
