Konak western galleries
Manastir Gračanica
Gračanica (Graçanicë), Kosovo
With the emergence of Serbia from Ottoman rule during the 19th century, monastic life was revived and new konaks constructed at the eastern periphery of the spacious rectangular grounds of the church. This partial view is of an imposing masonry konak, symmetrical in composition, with west-facing galleries between projecting rooms at the upper floor. The wooden gallery railing includes a projecting seating element.
