Village center from across lake
Psarades, Greece
Psarades is a small village on the southern edge of the Great Prespa Lake in the municipality of Prespes in northwest Greece (Macedonia). The lake, bordered by Albania and FYRO Macedonia, has a long history of settlements in the area extending back to the 4th century BCE. Important structures on the island Golem Grad date from to the 2nd century BCE. The lake is the highest tectonic lake in the Balkans and is recognized as an important environmental resource. The village inhabitants are still fishermen, and raise cattle, sheep, and goats. (photo 2004)
