Papaterpou Mansion from Megalou Alexandrou Street
Kastoria, Greece
This mansion, set against the steep slope, faces south to the lake across the tree lined street. The tall masonry walls are reinforced with wooden belts that stabilize the construction. Sectional drawings of the building confirm that the plastered upper walls are constructed using wood framing with lighter tile infill. The mansion has a central cross axis with large corner rooms; the setback eastern extension provides rooms beyond the area within the main volume that holds the major stair.
