Modified Traditional dwelling
Near Gušče, Croatia
This dwelling is a variant of the dwelling type of the region. On the ground level a front and rear space were enclosed and the center area, entered under the stair landing, was open. On the upper level, the stair led to an enlarged landing giving entry to large front and rear rooms, a kitchen and toilet. The lower level, originally contructed of wooden planks, has been faced with masonry and renovated into a living space. The enlarged landing at the head of the stairs is also given a more important expression by the addition of a gable that extends the lines of the roof over the stair. (photo 1988)
