The rising slope of the yard obscures the street level of the house. This view of the southern corner of the dwelling, from a raised garden level, shows the entrance doorway at grade, and multiple windows of the upper vestibule, or chardak, and projecting bay of a sofa. The stone foundation walls surround the lower level except where living spaces occur on the middle (mezzanine) and upper floors. Wood-frame construction with whitewashed plaster covering contrast with dark wood details. (photo 2000)
