Traditional dwelling with čardak
Rakitnica, Bosnia
Rakitnica is a Bjelašnica highlands village near Umoljani. This abandoned Dinaric-type house was built of stone, with timber reserved for internal floors and roof construction. The attic volume includes a room (čardak), with dormer. This near-empty village was formerly home to a semi-nomadic herding community, but its remaining old houses were destroyed in the 1990s Bosnian war.
