Gardens and villa
Štanjel, Slovenia
This photograph shows the Villa Ferrari (village stone houses joined and transformed by Maks Fabiani), overlooking the Ferrari Garden, also designed by Fabiani, during the 1920s and 1930s. Maks (Maximilian) Fabiani (1865-1962) was an important Italian-Slovenian architect born near Štanjel, who served the Italian fascists as mayor of the town until 1944, when much of the town was burnt down. Fabiani's ingenious rainwater systems were destroyed in the war, as was his own home and archive.
