Wooden Kozolec (traditional haydrying structure)
Motnik, Slovenia
Motnik is a village on the Motnišnica River in the Tuhinj Valley of Slovenia's Upper Carniola region, (at the southern base of the Karavanke mountain range that divides Slovenia from Austria). It is surrounded by farmlands notable for the covered hay racks and storage structures kozolci (s. kozolec) that are distinctive to Slovenia. The larger structures that join racks are called toplarji and often contain upper level storage spaces for hay and other produce while providing open space below to store equipment.
