Large dwelling in Begovina along Bregava River
Stolac, Herzegovina
Stolac is a town in southeastern Herzegovina with a rich history dating back to Illyrian and Roman times. The town is within the larger municipality of Stolac and served as a fortified center since medieval times. The Begovina is located on the left bank of the Bregava River, northeast of the town center. It is a complex of residences and other buildings constructed in the mid-19th century for the Bey (provincial governor) of the region during the late Ottoman period. The Begovina is attributed to Ali Pasha Rizvanbegović who served as the Bey (Beg) during this time.
